20 cars again signed in at Wilmot Raceway on August 6th. This marked the first and only time all season that the lightning sprints have been able to race on consecutive weeks due to Mother Nature. Andrew Kiedrowski repaired his car from the previous weeks flip and was able to grab quick time for the evening as well as winning heat 1. Max Brannam was able to win heat 2 – is second heat win in his career. The 55 of Mark Heinert drew the pole for the feature with Max Brannam starting on his outside. Brannam was able to get the holeshot but Heinert was able to get under him to lead lap 1. An early race caution bunched the field back together and on the following restart, several cars came together on the front stretch to bring out the red. Once the race continued, Heinert was able to stay on point for several laps until a bobble in turn 2 allowed 6th place starting Mike Neau to get under him and beat him into turn 3. Neau would go on to lead the final 12 laps and pick up his 3rd win of the season. Heinert would finish 2nd and Derek Fortier would round out the podium. The IRA Lightning Sprints will return to Wilmot Raceway on August 20th for an all IRA sprint car show with the IRA 410 sprints and the WI wingLESS sprints during the Kenosha County Fair
