Nick Petska continued his winning ways as the IRA Lightning Sprints returned to Sycamore Speedway to race the small track for the first time since August of 2011. The 13 of CJ Malueg was able to take command on the opening lap from his outside of row 2 starting position and lead the first 22 laps of the 25 lap main event. A restart with 4 to go bunched the field back up an allowed Petska to sneak by on the high side going through turns 1 and 2 on lap 23 and go on to win. That marks Petska’s 7th feature win this year in 15 events and is a sweep of both events the club has raced at Sycamore this year as he claimed the July 3rd race on the big track earlier this season as well. Malueg would hang on for 2nd and 6th starting Mike Neau in the 16 would round out the Podium.
Petska would also be credited with the evenings’ Hard Charger advancing 4 positions from starting 5th. Neau also set quick time in qualifying and Malueg and the 55H of Mark Heinert claimed heat race wins.
The series takes next weekend off and will return to wrap up the season at Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 25th for the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships where over 100 sprint cars will be in attendance and 4 champions will be crowned from the IRA Lightning Sprints, IRA 410 Sprints, Wisconsin wingLESS Sprints, and MSA 360’s.
